BIGOTS R US!

April 30, 2014 by Wyllisa Bennett 6 Comments

ATTENTION ALL BIGOTS:
Please Keep Your Racist Rants to Yourself!

donald sterlingDid Bigots R Us hold a national convention recently, and decided they were not going to hide in the closet anymore?

Last week, it was Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy who said Black people are “better off as slaves” and “they put their young men in jail because they never learned how to pick cotton.” This is the same man that hasn’t paid grazing fees to the federal government in more 20 years and has rung up a $1 million tab to Uncle Sam.  Still, Cliven (what a name) used his 15 minutes of fame to spew racist rants about “the Negro” in an interview with the New York Times.

I had a short, crazy conversation with my colleague Shirley Husar, a Black conservative and Republican, trying to convince me that Bundy may have a point! Huh? In her Washington Times column, she says “there may be some nuggets of truth” for the problems Black people face today. She feels Black communities have suffered under government subsidy programs, which have failed to help people stand on their own two feet.

Shirley, stop it. On a girl’s night out, some of your conservative views can really put a damper on things for a liberal like me! I’m just too far left, and we’ll never see eye to eye on some things!

The Revolution of Black Women Is Being Televised

beyonce time magazinelupiys nyong'o people magazine

Wow, last week the stars were aligned just right for Black women. OK, I admit, we got off to a rocky start with all the publicity surrounding the reunion show for “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and the brawl that took place between beauty queen Kenya Moore and trophy wife Porsha Stewart.

How in the hell, could these women spend hard-earned money on hair, make-up and wardrobe, and then roll around on the floor on national television is beyond me! Yes Porsha, you’re right. You embarrassed yourself! But not only that, you embarrassed every dignified, African American woman in America! I hope these girls read the open letter my friend Tanya Young Williams wrote on Huffington Post.

NeNe, maybe it’s time for you to make a grand exit from the show. When I repped you, I always said, “Girl, you never leave a top-rated show!” But now, ya’ll are fighting and carrying on … I mean, even the mother of Kandi Burruss — Mama Joyce, and her Geritol gang — was trying to start some mess on an episode this season. I’ll text you later about it.

HIGH FIVES FOR THE DARK-SKINNED GIRLS!

Lupita Nyong’o Named “Most Beautiful” by People Magazine

ex-ot-ic:
adjective
1. Hollywood slang for a pretty, dark-skinned woman not born in the United States. You’re considered “exotic” if you’re African or British, but not African American, born in the U.S. of A.

Top Ten Things I’d Tell My 30-Year-Old Self

Wyllisa at 30

Well, today is my birthday! I’m one year shy of the BIG 5-0! But, before I get ahead of myself, I want to savor this last year of being in my forties. I’m gonna throw my hands up in the air, and wave ‘em like I just don’t care!! I’m going to eat as many cupcakes as I want this month, even though one of my clients – that is, two-time, Emmy Award-winning celebrity hairstylist Kiyah Wright said to me the other day, “Girl, don’t get chunky on me!” lol

I’m going to celebrate my 49th birthday all year long. Why? Because, it closes out another chapter of my life. I’ve lived to tell about it – that is, my roaring forties!! I’m so grateful because some of my friends, classmates, colleagues, acquaintances, and friends of friends just didn’t make it this far. See, I realize that in your forties, that’s when you really start thinking about your own mortality.
