The Revolution of Black Women Is Being Televised
Wow, last week the stars were aligned just right for Black women. OK, I admit, we got off to a rocky start with all the publicity surrounding the reunion show for “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and the brawl that took place between beauty queen Kenya Moore and trophy wife Porsha Stewart.
How in the hell, could these women spend hard-earned money on hair, make-up and wardrobe, and then roll around on the floor on national television is beyond me! Yes Porsha, you’re right. You embarrassed yourself! But not only that, you embarrassed every dignified, African American woman in America! I hope these girls read the open letter my friend Tanya Young Williams wrote on Huffington Post.
NeNe, maybe it’s time for you to make a grand exit from the show. When I repped you, I always said, “Girl, you never leave a top-rated show!” But now, ya’ll are fighting and carrying on … I mean, even the mother of Kandi Burruss — Mama Joyce, and her Geritol gang — was trying to start some mess on an episode this season. I’ll text you later about it.
HIGH FIVES FOR THE DARK-SKINNED GIRLS!
Lupita Nyong’o Named “Most Beautiful” by People Magazine
ex-ot-ic:
adjective
1. Hollywood slang for a pretty, dark-skinned woman not born in the United States. You’re considered “exotic” if you’re African or British, but not African American, born in the U.S. of A.

LIFE HASN’T FOLLOWED MY GAME PLAN, PART 2
Top Ten Things I’d Tell My 30-Year-Old Self
Well, today is my birthday! I’m one year shy of the BIG 5-0! But, before I get ahead of myself, I want to savor this last year of being in my forties. I’m gonna throw my hands up in the air, and wave ‘em like I just don’t care!! I’m going to eat as many cupcakes as I want this month, even though one of my clients – that is, two-time, Emmy Award-winning celebrity hairstylist Kiyah Wright said to me the other day, “Girl, don’t get chunky on me!” lol
I’m going to celebrate my 49th birthday all year long. Why? Because, it closes out another chapter of my life. I’ve lived to tell about it – that is, my roaring forties!! I’m so grateful because some of my friends, classmates, colleagues, acquaintances, and friends of friends just didn’t make it this far. See, I realize that in your forties, that’s when you really start thinking about your own mortality.

TURNING THE BIG 3-0!
This article first appeared in the June 1995 issue of Community Pride magazine, a local publication in Charlotte, N.C. It was my very first, first-person column on turning the BIG 3-0!
STANDING ROOM ONLY!
I had the honor of serving on a panel discussion about Black Hollywood on April 3, 2014 for students at the New York Film Academy, held at Warner Bros. in Burbank, Calif. Oh, I do love a captive audience, and those students were certainly eager beavers to soak up as much knowledge about the ins and outs of Hollywood. I shared the stage with actresses Erica Tazel, Caryn Ward Ross (“The Game”) along with her husband, director Craig Ross Jr. (“Motives,” “Mannsfield 12”) as well as producers D. Channsin Berry and Cheryl Bedford (“Dark Girls”}, plus director Jeff Byrd (“A Beautiful Soul,” “King’s Ransom”). Cameras rolled as each panelist spoke candidly about their experience in the industry. At times, the panel discussions got a bit rowdy, because everyone had a different point of view about certain aspects of the business. The panel discussion lasted more than two hours, and after it was over, we received a standing ovation and a fabulous gift bag! Here are some tidbits: Continue Reading
